Town of Coeymans, New York

Regional Truck Routing Plan Update

March 17, 2026

The Office of the Supervisor would like to provide an important update regarding ongoing truck traffic concerns affecting our community and neighboring municipalities.

Following recent developments, including the removal of a privately installed sign that had been influencing truck routing, traffic patterns throughout the region continue to shift. While the removal of that sign addressed concerns about unilateral decision-making, it also confirmed a larger issue: there is currently no formally enforced, state-established truck routing plan governing these corridors.

This is not a Coeymans-only issue; our office has been fielding concerns from the residents of New Baltimore for the last two days. Truck traffic is impacting multiple communities, including the Village of Ravena, the Hamlet of Selkirk, and the Town of New Baltimore. Because this involves state highways, a coordinated, regional solution is required.

Here is where things stand as of today: at our request, Albany County has engaged the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) on this issue. NYSDOT has indicated there is an estimated 90-day timeframe for review.

The Town of Coeymans has engaged Senator Pat Fahy’s office and they are actively working to accelerate that timeline, and New Baltimore has coordinated with Senator Michelle Hinchey’s office to do the same.

I have reached out to Supervisor VanLuven in Bethlehem to ensure he is informed of any impacts that traffic originating from Coeymans may be having in his area.

The Town is working with our neighboring municipalities and Albany County to ensure a unified, regional approach moving forward.

At the same time, we are not waiting for the State to act.

The Town is actively coordinating with law enforcement on targeted enforcement where needed, documenting traffic patterns and areas of concern, working with regional partners to prepare for a formal engagement with NYSDOT.

The objective is to establish a fair, balanced, and enforceable truck routing framework that safeguards residents, upholds public safety, and distributes impacts responsibly and reasonably, while enabling local businesses and industry to continue operating in a manner that is both productive and respectful of the surrounding communities.

We understand the very real concerns this situation has caused and appreciate the continued input from residents in all municipalities. This is a complex, multi-jurisdictional issue, but it is being actively addressed at the local, county, and state levels.

This issue is the number one priority of this Supervisor’s Office and we are committed to continue the work until we bring relief to our residents.

We will continue to provide updates as progress is made.

Town of Coeymans Supervisor,

Stephen Donnelly
